There has been a major drama in the vaping community lately. Among all the FDA regulation talk and local and state governments messing with vapers, the community has been divided lately. The divide I am seeing is a result of several issues happening in the community, but the most recent and most explosive issue has been the around FreetoVape.org. I posted in support of this website a few weeks ago. Since then, fireworks have ensued. I will share my thoughts on this, but 1st, let me say this. DO ALL YOU CAN TO HELP.
There are several things you can do as a vaper to help the cause. Many of them are scrolling randomly in the top right section of this website. There is nothing that says you can’t participate and/or support different organizations. The more angles we hit this from, the better off we’ll be. That’s my opinion at least.
Join CASAA! Membership is free and CASAA is doing a lot for vapers.
Here’s their mission statement:
“Our mission is to ensure the availability of effective, affordable and reduced harm alternatives to smoking by increasing public awareness and education; to encourage the testing and development of products to achieve acceptable safety standards and reasonable regulation; and to promote the benefits of reduced harm alternatives.”
CASAA is constantly sending out “Call to Action” requests to the vaping community to help with local and state issues that involve vapers. If for some reason you don’t want to join, but still want to keep up with their “Calls to Action”, you can follow this link.
The CASAA website is a wealth of information as well. They have links to studies. Scientific research, results of fights against the government and more.
They recently sent out a call to action related to the FDA:
This is CASAA’s Third Call to Action in connection with the FDA’s proposed deeming regulations. We’re asking members to reach out to their federal legislators and demand congressional hearings on (1) the arbitrary and capricious scientific claims being made by the FDA in the proposed regulations, and (2) the demonstrably false and misleading information provided by the CDC.
The website provided an easy way for vapers to contact officials to request a congressional hearing. Just fill in your info and the rest of the work was done for you. Here’s the email I received after filling the form out:
Your message for “Ask members of Congress to Hold Congressional Hearings Regarding the FDA and CDC Actions” was sent on 06/15/2014 19:02 PM to the following recipients: President Barack Obama (D), Vice President Joseph Biden (D), Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL), Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL)
As a Vaper, there is no reason not to join CASAA. Join today and tell your friends to join as well.
The Vaping Militia
Here’s the Mission Statement for The Vaping Militia
Create a community of vapors and the businesses that support vaping.
Provide a network of active individuals of like beliefs so that we can organize and find those with the talents to lead the efforts in each state or region.
Assist individual advocacy groups in forming by creating tools and providing information and notifying the members of grassroots networking in their respective areas.
Create a open collaborative environment where the resources are created once to use by any movement that identifies with our cause.
Generate funding for direct support of efforts the falls between the scope of larger national advocacy and local advocacy.
Maintain an immediate response presence as a communications network that is flexible and will have the flexibility to step outside of traditional roles to meet the needs of this community, including but not limited to boots on the ground organization, mailings, social media, email and news blasts at local and state advocacy levels.
Again, there is no real reason not to join The Vaping Militia either. You can support The Vaping Militia for free, but you can also become a General Member by making a small donation. This will get you a nice set of dog tags to mark your membership too.
This isn’t really a group to join, it’s a website that provides vapers an opportunity to submit comments to the FDA, your Congressional Representative, and your two Congressional Senators. Part of the drama and separation in the community lately revolves around this site’s security and whether or not the actions are actually taking place. I submitted comments through this website on day one and followed up a week later with my state officials and was told that they did not receive my comments.
I personally have no issue with FreetoVape and I support it, but I don’t think it should be the one voice for consumers in regards to the FDA deadline that is approaching fast. CASAA isn’t against what FreetoVape is doing, but they did think that it might have a negative effect in this battle. Because of that, some of the support has waned from some of the community leaders.
I posted about FreetoVape when it was 1st announced and I still stand behind it, but don’t just do one thing… do more.
American Vaping Association (Vaping.info)
The American Vaping Association is an organization that was created primarily for the purpose of positive media advocacy for vaping and electronic cigarettes. We feel that it’s very important to get the message out to the masses that millions worldwide have made the switch to vaping and that electronic cigarettes are one of the greatest harm reduction products that has ever been created. We want to educate the general population about vaping and give them true and accurate information. One of the best ways to do this is through mass media.
The money donated to the AVA will be used to secure the services of a public relations firm. The PR firm has the capability to get our spokespeople on major media outlets and get our press releases into major publications. We are a non-profit corporation in the State of New Jersey that has filed for 501(c)(4) status. The AVA is not a charitable organization and therefore donations and pledges are not tax deductible as such.
SFATA – The Smoke Free Alternatives Trade Association (SFATA.ORG)
The Smoke Free Alternatives Trade Association represents a wide cross section of the “Smoke Free” industry including distributors, manufacturers, retailers and consumers of Personal Electronic Vaporizing Units such as electronic cigarettes and the liquid solutions they contain.
